A Partner Visa lets you live in Australia with your spouse or de facto partner. You can apply from inside Australia or from overseas. The visa is designed for couples who can show they are in a genuine, committed relationship. For most people, it also leads to permanent residency.

Who It's For

A Partner Visa may be suitable if:

• You are married to, or in a de facto relationship with, an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
• You plan to live together in Australia
• You can provide evidence of a genuine, ongoing relationship
• You are applying either onshore (820 and 801) or offshore (309 and 100)

What You’ll Need

Every situation is different, although most applicants will need:

• Identity documents
• Evidence of the relationship across the four legal pillars: financial, household, social and commitment
• A written relationship statement
• Form 888s from friends or family
• Police checks and health checks
• Evidence that you and your partner plan a future together
• Visa application fees and proof of payment (the government fee for the Partner Visa is typically around AUD 9,000)
• Extra documents depending on your circumstances
